Quick ReConnect
Last week was a short week here in Canada (we took the Monday off to drink beer - I mean, celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday), and the person at Surge from whom I get the most help with web development was off sick on Tuesday an Wednesday. Plus, I was off to DrupalCamp Friday and Saturday, which meant losing another work day, plus preparing two presentations.
My reason for mentioning all this is that last Tuesday, I finally got client feedback on some layouts for a web site that had to go live yesterday. That's right, feedback on Tuesday, live web site the following Tuesday. Short staffed, with competing time commitments. Content-wise, it wasn't a huge web site, but it did have a number of features (like webforms) that, if built from scratch, would take a while to implement in a way that would be robust and secure.
It was a stressful few days, but we got it launched on time. Actually, without any marathon late nights (though a lot of the material for my DrupalCamp presentations was pulled together in the wee hours). For me, it's a real testament to how Drupal allows for modular re-use. For instance, a couple of the features on the site (Quick Contact and Share with a Friend) had only minimal changes from a similar site we did a few months back. So, I copied across the finished modules, and changed the configuration options accordingly. Throw in a couple of webforms (and a whole lotta theming), and we were done.
In case you're curious, here's the finished product:
